ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The New York State Council on the Arts’ Capital Projects Fund has awarded more than $86 million to non-profit arts and cultural organizations throughout the state, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday. The investment reportedly aims to strengthen New York’s arts infrastructure and economy.
134 projects across the state received funding, including several within the Capital Region. Most organizations will use the money for building renovations, accessibility improvements and new creative spaces. According to the Governor’s Office, 75% of the awards went to organizations with budgets under $3 million.
“Our arts and culture sector is a powerhouse, inspiring the world with innovation and creativity,” Hochul said. “By investing in our museums, our theaters and our arts center, we enrich our communities, strengthen local economies and improve tourism all over the state.”
The awards were separated into three grant categories:
- Small and Midsized Capital Improvement Grants, which ranged from $10,000 to $2 million
- Capital Design Grants, which ranged from $50,000 to $500,000 and supported mid-stage and advanced design documents to advance capital projects
- Large Capital Improvement Grants, which ranged from $2 million to $10 million and focused on large-scale capital projects dedicated to community development and placemaking
“Capital projects are critical investments in our health and prosperity: creating jobs, enriching our communities and creating a stronger New York for our residents and visitors,” said New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim. “Congratulations to all the grantees: we look forward to seeing these projects grow and expand all over our great state.”
