1 dead, 1 injured after wrong-way crash on Thruway in Clarkstown

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police are currently investigating a deadly car crash that occurred in the town of Clarkstown early Saturday morning. Three vehicles were reportedly involved.

According to a preliminary investigation by State Police, at about 3:01 a.m., a Subaru WRX was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Thruway. Near Exit 12, authorities said the Subaru struck a 2017 Volvo truck towing a trailer.

After the first collision, the Subaru was then reportedly struck by a 2016 Freightliner towing a trailer. The Freightliner then hit the Volvo truck, police said.

The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru, identified as 33-year-old Brian Tortora of New York, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police. The driver of the Volvo was reportedly transported to Nyack Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing, per authorities.
