WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A local business joined the growing list of historic New York businesses. The Douglas Industrial Company in Watervliet was added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry on Tuesday.
Douglas Industrial has been a national distributor and manufacturer of engineered fasteners for the agricultural, automotive, and construction industries since 1975. Officials said the veteran-owned company has helped shape the area’s industrial identity.
“This business — which has given back to the community in so many ways — 200,000 products from Rubbermaid to 3M, I can’t imagine the experiences that you’ve had,” NYS Sen. Jake Ashby said. “But that decision to continue to push on, inspired the next generation of veterans coming up, particularly the next generation of veterans who decided to start small businesses.”
To be considered for the registry, a business must be at least 50 years old and have made significant contributions to their community’s history.
