ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A school zone speed camera bill in the city of Schenectady was signed into law, according to Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. The bill creates a pilot program allowing Schenectady to install speed cameras in designated school zones.

The cameras would monitor drivers’ speed in up to 20 school zones, including high school areas, to enforce a 20 MPH limit in the school zone. It also sets a five-year timeframe to measure results and effectiveness.

The city of Albany implemented school zone speed cameras at the beginning of 2025. Since then, the cameras have generated $6.7 million with 60 percent going to the traffic safety solutions camera company. The Albany city treasurer said the city has received $2.6 million.
